Program Values
As reflective practitioners, graduates will demonstrate the following professional values:
1. Value self and others, i.e., possess confidence in one's decisions and value diversity in its many forms;
Art defies classification. Art is sublime. It evokes emotion in ways that cannot be explained. This is why these assignments reveal true diversity for me. As a racially mixed American Pacific Islander woman the diversity in art is what I most appreciate. Digitizing art accentuates globalization. Making art available online offers it to the world.

2. Exhibit professional behavior, knowledge, and attitudes, based on client-centered philosophy and ethical guidelines;
As I patron I spoke to two very different librarians. I also emailed an online reference librarian. I received different results to the same question. Surprisingly the online librarian was the most proficient. I saw first-hand how vital it is to be client-centered.

3. Advocate for others by displaying a commitment to quality and equity;
This is the handout from one of my group class presentations. I wrote the information on this handout and my classmate included the graphics. We redesigned Salt Lake County's children's database interface which is not "kid-friendly" at all. I like that the county stresses children are patrons just as much as adults are patrons. Kids need to be encouraged to use databases. Dinosaurs were incorporated into our redesign along with bright colors encouraging kids to explore the databases. Children should have worthwhile experiences at the library. We show our interdependence when we work with more then just adults.

4. Demonstrate leadership by displaying vision, and adaptability, openness to new ideas, and risk-taking behavior;
I was happy when my instructor approved this topic. Christ is the leader I admire the most and I wanted to study his qualities for my assignment. I hadn't anticipated sharing this with the rest of my class but it was received well and my instructor mentioned how the principles I attributed to Christ can be applied to other great leaders. Christ's mission is to the world.

5. Imagine outside the box by demonstrating creativity in problem solving,
Dr. Seuss stories are great to teach effective leadership principles. Selecting several of his stories and demonstrating how they illustrate Stephen R. Covey tenets was so much fun. It isn't the typical assignment and it is a fantastic example of imagining outside the box and creativity in problem solving. As world citizens we will have to constantly "think outside the box" as we deal with new people and concerns we haven't even conceived yet.
