Program Outcomes:
1. Articulate a philosophy of client-centered information services based on the epistemological and ethical foundations of the library and information professions;
I observed librarians at a Salt Lake county public library and decided what I will and won't do as an information professional. A diverse population is what I love about working as a substitute librarian for Salt Lake County. Needs are as varied as the public. This assignment reminded me the client is crucial. This library is one of the busiest and serves one of the most varied populations in Utah. This setting uniquely prepares the community for globalization, unity, and interdependence.

2. Explain and apply interdisciplinary theories and models relevant to managing library and information service agencies;
Globalization is an exciting concept we must embrace. Management cannot ignore its implications. Public librarians in particular can learn from national and international journalism organizations who are similarly concerned with providing information to populations it serves in the most appropriate form. Studying other disciplines can illluminate issues I may not have considered. This annotated bibliography taught me information professionals face many of the same questions journalists confront.

3. Conduct an information needs assessment, and design and evaluate customized information services and products based on those needs;
I constructed a database for an automobile repair business. It was the major assignment in a database design class. I interviewed the owner, who is the bishop or church leader for my congregation, extensively and asked additional questions as I designed and built it. My initial interview was the information needs assessmernt. Later I designed a database to meet the businesses' need to record and evaluate its customers, repairs, and payments. I continued to evaluate the service I built by staying in touch with the owner and making adjustments as I understood better what the business needed.

4. Based on a diagnosed need, retrieve, interpret, and/or repackage relevant information resources, and evaluate their use and impact;
People need to know where to find information. I made a detailed study of various reference sourcres. I can find information easier for clients and I can also empower them to use these resources themselves. When I took a government information sources class I also learned where to find national resources. I was so impressed with the Library of Congress site I decided to make a detailed study.

5. Lead appropriate change by using effective collaborative, communication, and organizational skills;
Organizations are embracing digitization. As we incorporate more electronic forms in our collections we need to remember to invest in preservation too. Digital formats are fragile making more data susceptible to loss. Appropriate change invests in digitization and preservation. Digital formats can be sent easily around the globe. Effective digital preservation is critical.

6. Teach information literacy skills in order to facilitate effective learning organizations;
My classmate and I taught the rest of the class about an information literacy online tutorial we examined. I wrote this handout and dressed in white I talked about the positive aspects of the tutorial. My classmate wore black and discussed the negative points.

7. Demonstrate life-long learning skills by continually acquiring new knowledge, skills, and perspectives to respond to changing conditions;
Having a world perspective is crucial today. The Global Information Infrastructure is enriching every aspect of life. Interdependence begins with humility and the realization that our collective wisdom always has the potential to be far greater than it could ever be alone.

8. Communicate effectively in writing, orally, and in using information technologies.
I completed this research proposal for a class. It is my example of solid written communication. I originally wrote it using Word, changed it to an open office format, and then downloaded it in PDF to this website! I write about Tongan-American students who must navigate between two cultures in this assignment. Globalization makes multiple cultures especially relevant.
